How to Use a Chinese Gender Prediction Birth Chart

The Chinese birth chart, also known as the Chinese conception chart, is one of the oldest methods of at-home gender selection. This chart was supposedly discovered more than 700 years ago. Today, the original is kept in the Institute of Science in Peking, but people are still attempting the same method to influence the gender of their future children.

Using the Chinese Birth Chart to Predict Your Baby's Gender

The Chinese birth chart is thought to predict gender by cross referencing the mother's age and the month of conception. The chart is based on the observation that women of the same age seem more likely to have children of the same sex. Conversely, some women use the chart in an attempt plan the gender of a child by trying to conceive on a date that will result in a due date that coincides with the gender they want.

When attempting to use this birth chart, it's important to remember that you should use your lunar age and the Chinese lunar month when deciding if your unborn baby will be a boy or girl. If you don't convert your age and the month of conception, your results are likely to be incorrect. Another common error in using the chart to predict the sex of your baby involves miscalculating your child's date of conception.

Is the Chart Accurate?

If you're wondering just how accurate the Chinese birth chart can be, the answer to your question depends on who you ask. According to Chinese Gender Chart.info, the chart is higher than 90% accurate if used correctly. There are also non-believers who are convinced the tally is more around the 50% accuracy range, similar to what you'd find in a completely random method of gender selection.

Although the accuracy of the chart is in dispute, it can be great fun to use when you're trying to add to your family or if you're already pregnant and haven't had your ultrasound yet. Just don't paint the nursery based on the results!

Other Methods of Gender Selection

Unfortunately, choosing the sex of your unborn baby is a difficult task. With the exception of in vitro fertilization (IVF), gender selection is the luck of the draw. However, if you're determined to attempt to tip the odds in your favor, you'll find no shortage of theories on how to conceive a boy or how to conceive a girl.

  • Dr. Landrum B. Shettles's book How to Choose the Sex of Your Baby: The Method Best Supported by Scientific Evidence is based on the idea that sperm carrying the Y chromosome travel faster than sperm carrying the X chromosome.
  • Dr. Elizabeth Whelan's book Boy or Girl? focuses on timing intercourse correctly to produce a baby of the desired gender.
  • There are also various urban legends that state changing your diet, having sex on a particular day of the month, or scheduling lovemaking sessions for a particular time of day will produce the desired result.

Don't Depend on Predictions

Regardless of just how accurate this birth chart might be at predicting the sex of a child, it wouldn't be too wise to put too much stock in the outcome. Mother Nature has her own way of balancing out the population, and you may still wind up with a big surprise no matter how carefully you planned your child's conception and resulting birth date. Be prepared to welcome your new bundle of joy - whether that bundle is pink or blue.
